Wilton Task Force to Reduce
      Substance Use Among Youth
The mission of Wilton Youth Council's Task Force to Reduce Sustance Use Among Youth is to reduce the use and abuse of substances, including prescription medication, among Wilton's youth.  We will accomplish this through education initiatives and increasing the availability of healthy alternatives.  Through a community-wide effort, the goal of the task force can be reached by reducing the accessibility of substances, and educating youth, families, and the community about the risks associated with use and abuse of substances.

Originating as Wilton Task Force to Reduce Underage Drinking, it was established January 2005 for the purpose of educating the public about issues surrounding underage drinking. The Task Force included members from all parts of our community - Wilton Schools, Wilton Police, 1st Selectman's Office, Trackside, Students, Parents, Businesses, and the United Way. Its accomplishments include helping to pass Wilton's Underage Drinking Ordinance, obtaining grant funding for the creation and distribution of a Youth Directory and Communities of Concern Booklet (with Wilton Youth Council), working with Positive Directions and Wilton Public Schools to administer surveys to parents and students about risky behaviors, co-sponsoring two "Save A Life Tour!" presentations at Wilton High School, and co-sponsoring several Community Conversations and Parents' Forums on topics related to underage drinking.
